Iscariot

CHARCOAL:

Matthew 26: 46 - 75 introduces how the betrayal of Judas, last name Iscariot, led to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Judas sold the life of Jesus Christ to the hands of death, for a mere 30 shekels of silver.

The body dies, but never the spirit.

As a result of the death of Jesus Christ, Judas felt an immense amount of conviction, agony, shame, guilt, regret, and deep... deep sorrow. Insomuch, that he committed suicide, hanging himself.

My motivation for this art piece was to depict the brink, the sublime, the epitome of sorrow, at the edge of self destruction right before one may lead themselves to the peak of felo de se.

That final moment.. or moments, one may feel right before they force their own heart to stop, is the focus of "Iscariot."
